Recently graduated residents and fellows - see below!

The National Clinician Scholar Program (NCSP) is a two-year research training fellowship for physicians seeking rigorous training in health services research, quality of care, outcomes, and health policy. The program was formerly known as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program.  Fellows receive a competitive stipend, a master's degree, and close mentorship throughout.
One question we occasionally hear is whether NCSP is intended only for clinicians pursuing traditional NIH-funded academic research careers. In fact, our alumni pursue a remarkably broad range of careers both inside and outside academia.
NCSP prepares clinicians for many different types of leadership careers by combining rigorous research methods with training in leadership, bioinformatics, health policy, implementation science, AI evaluation, communication, and mentorship from nationally recognized faculty across disciplines. Perhaps most importantly, scholars become part of a national network of mentors and alumni that continues long after graduation.
NCSP alumni are now leaders in:
    • Academic faculty roles
    • Health system leadership and quality/operations
    • Health policy (government, think tanks, and advocacy organizations)
    • Population health
    • Industry (including payers, health technology, AI, and data science)
Applications are being accepted through our final deadline of August 15, 2026, for the cohort beginning July 1, 2027.
Any questions please reach out at admin@nationalcsp.org.
