    There are 3 things I stress to new graduates and seasoned laboratory professionals:  be a lifelong learner, volunteer in your community to make a difference, and be involved in your professional society.  The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the largest professional society representing the entire scope of pathology and laboratory medicine, actively advocates for YOU.  They do so much more than certification:  education, networking on the local, national, and international stage, grants and scholarships, resources for training programs and program directors. mentoring and career development.  I encourage everyone to consider this opportunity to join the Council of Laboratory Professionals.  Laura is a tremendous leader who represents the council to the ASCP Board of Directors.  Step up, get involved, and watch what happens...it will be rewarding on so many levels.
