I have a question. In your opinion, would there be a chance for a part time, long term, flexible hours,  job for a near retirement age MLT(ASCP) with experience(approximately 6 years)and a great work ethic, but hadn't worked in 25 years. I have a special needs son, which required me to take a LONG hiatus.I took a refresher phlebotomy course and graduated at the top of my class 5 years ago. Still no job. Im really interested in getting as many opinions as possible. What type of questions would you ask at an interview? Thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Mary Clark-Dennison

There is a high demand for MLT/MT positions in any  setting however most jobs require certification and/or license. If you had a license, I would work on getting my license renewed if you haven't done so. Another thing to consider is are you a generalist or specialize in a certain area? Some hospitals may be looking for someone who can specifically work in those areas. If you are generalist and/or can work the department ( or had experience)that they specifically request then you are in good hands.  Despite being gone for little over 20 something years, you should be able to get any job as MLT/MT as long as you are certified or had experience with those areas your employer requests.

Hello Mary, that is a huge gap but it's not impossible. The best way forward in my opinion is this, first check certification status to recertify, update your skill by enrolling in a refresher program, and apply for entry-level lab or phlebotomy positions to get back into the environment. Lastly, I would reach out to former colleagues, professional associations (ASCP, CLMA), or local hospital HR departments. Best of luck
