    Hi all,

I'm looking for a space and cost-effective option(s) for slide warmers to place on our FNA ROSE carts.   As our cart-top space is limited, we need something that is very small (ideally 3 - 4in LxW ).  Additionally, we'd like to be able to see and control the temperature.  I've searched for slide warmers, hot plates, and even block warmers, but have found very limited options.  None of the limited options meet both our preferred size and temperature control criteria.  Does anyone have suggestions on where to search for a teeny slide warmer or do you have experience with an instrument that might work for us?  What do you all use to dry your FNA ROSE slides?

    Thanks for your help,

Hi April, saw your post about ROSE cart slide warmers/dryers. We have 3 carts supplied with them, although they may be a bit larger than you requested. Prior to the hot plates, we used a small hair drier, which worked perfectly, but stopped using it during the COVID era due to a concern about spreading the virus. I will get back to you with the brand names of the hot plates we use and possibly the mini hair dryer if I can find it, when I return to work on Tuesday.

Sorry April it took so long. We use Corning Hotplates on our ROSE carts. Plate surface is approx. 7.5" x 6", device footprint is approx. 10" x 8". Adjustable temperature from barely warm to easily boiling water. We set our temp level to 65 on the dial, which will dry slides rapidly, but will not burn the specimen. It takes longer to dry when set to 60, will dry more rapidly when set to 70. I would not recommend setting this warmer any higher than 70, it would be too hot. The warmers are available from Fisher Scientific, 4500 Turnberry Drive Hanover Park, IL 60133. Hope this is helpful.

A 5 dollar candle warmer from Wal-Mart works quite well.  I've been using those for decades.

Great idea Thomas! We were using a small, 2 speed Hair drier for years, that worked perfect as well. Stopped using that during the COVID era for fear of contaminating the room with specimen aerosols.
