Recently a few national medical laboratory journals published articles seeking solutions to shortages and utilized members for feedback! One concentrated on EDUCATION - to ATTRACT new medical laboratory colleagues. Another concentrated on COMPENSATION - to RECRUIT & RETAIN qualified board certified medical laboratory professionals. BOTH articles referenced the recently published international article: "Workforce in the Shadow of Healthcare." Professionals who contributed to this recent release of constructive feedback include: Dr. Marianne Downes who recently started a new NAACLS accredited educational curriculum program at Geisinger. James Payne who attracts high school students to laboratory medicine and just was honored to The Pathologist Power List. Dr Rodney E Rohde who mentors future medical laboratory colleagues and is a major advocate on podcasts and media outlets. And me - who has a passion for this profession and after an early retirement from laboratory administration is featured and publishing articles. The point is ADVOCACY - is each and everyone of us - each day in every way - from bench to board room from classroom to conferences from workplace to media and onward to legislators. Be seen and be heard. Two recent national surveys have been released demonstrating the struggles that continue to attract recruit retain - but also exhibiting hope highlighting improvements noted where and when some of these quality long term solutions are implemented - - positive feedback and outcomes can be realized.
