    Hi everyone,

My name is Bill and I currently work in the wet lab of a Cytogenetics Oncology Group. I have my Molecular Biology (MB) license with the ASCP. I really would like to get my CG exam passed, unfortunately, I have a red/green colorblindness that causes me great difficulty when I try to prepare for the Molecular Cytogenetics (FISH) portion of the examination. I did take the MD Anderson Cytogenetics Review course which is excellent and I have the Review guide saved in a file on my computer along with a printed copy to study at home. Any assistance someone can offer that might help me in dealing with the Molecular Cytogenetics (FISH) portion would be appreciated. I understand I will not be able to read FISH in the clinical setting, but I would still love being able to say I passed my CG(ASCP).

I have been a Clinical Lab Tech (Histology, HT&HTL) for 18+ years. Three years ago I became interested in Cytogenetics in the Clinical Laboratory area and really love my new specialty area.

    Hi Bill,

I am the exam committee chair. I have reached out to ASCP BOC to see if there is an accommodation we can make. I will reply as soon as I get a response. Personally, I would not let that stop me from taking the exam. I don't think that there are that many questions with FISH images it would prevent you from passing the exam as long as you were strong in all of the other subjects.

Again, I will let you know as soon as I find out if we can make an accommodation.
