    Did You Know

In the United States, there are currently no widely approved polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests or FDA-approved antiviral treatments/vaccines for hantavirus. Because commercially available PCR kits are labeled only for "research use," clinical hospital labs cannot run them on patients.

Care for hantavirus remains strictly supportive. If a patient exhibits symptoms, doctors rely on intensive care to manage breathing, blood pressure, and kidney function rather than attacking the virus directly with an approved pharmaceutical.
