Hello everyone!
I want to thank everyone who registered, attended, and made this event even larger than before. This could not happen without your participation and support. We hope to continue building this event and holding others as our chapter grows. This year, we had about 100 attendees with 20 of those being students.
Attached are the slide decks our wonderful speakers presented during the conference. Huge thanks and gratitude to our speakers for making the time and travel to join us at Stonewall Resort. It is greatly appreciated:
- Sten Westgard, MS - Westgard QC
- Jane M. Hermansen, MBA, MLS(ASCP) - Mayo Clinic Labs
- Robert S. Ohgami, MD, PhD, FCAP - ARUP
- Candy Creech, BS Biology - LabCorp
- John Mitsios, PhD - Siemens Healthineers
- Danyel H. Tacker, PhD, FADLM, D(ABCC) - WVU
- Dana Stillwagon, MS, MLS(ASCP), MLT(ASCP) - WV Office of Laboratory Services
I personally want to thank the following individuals for their efforts in making this event and organization run so smoothly:
Della Haynes: Della is the Operations Manager of the Automated Procedures Laboratory in Vandalia Health CAMC Memorial Hospital. She has dedicated at least 8 years to this organization, holding positions of Director, President-Elect, President, Past-President, and Secretary. Her leadership has been instrumental during a turbulent and transitional time for this organization with the COVID impact and CLMA dissolution. Having her continued presence helped provide stability during this challenging time. Her term as Secretary and a board member ended at the Annual Meeting. We can't thank her enough for her time and effort.
Angie Cedeńo: Angie is the Operations Manager/Director for the Laboratory at Raleigh General Hospital. She is also an inspector for The Joint Commission. She has put 6 years into this organization, holding positions of President-Elect, President, and Past President. She also provided critical stability during a transitional period for the organization and important insight and networking to help us continue to grow. Her term as Past President and board member ended at the annual meeting this year.
Herb Vincent: Herb joins us from the IT department of Vandalia Health Davis Health System. He has been in a Director position on the chapter board for 4 years and recently termed as a board member. Herb also helped provide critical stability and support during a challenging transition period. Having his continual dedication went a long way in keeping this organization up and going while many chapters were unable to do so. Greatly appreciate his time on our board.
Belinda Davidson: Belinda is the Beckman Coulter Sales Representative in the sales territory that includes West Virginia. Much of this could not happen without her tireless efforts in recruiting vendor interest and representation. Our vendor registrations supply a crucial portion of the support for these conferences to even happen. Without that, these events would be nearly impossible to hold in their current format. Her networking has also helped to get the word out about our event so professionals in the region were aware. She is a Director on our Chapter Board and is an invaluable member of our team. We are so grateful for her efforts to help this event happen.
We made the debut of our annual Outstanding Laboratory Professional Award. We will have additional information regarding the process for nominating future recipients for this award. As a board, we wanted to offer another reason to be a chapter member. In our discussions we felt there was one recipient that deserved it the most, unanimously selecting Mrs. Connie Crede. Connie is the Chief Laboratory Officer of Vandalia Health. She has dedicated 41 years to the laboratory profession, serving in nearly every level of the laboratory profession from phlebotomist, to bench tech, supervisor, manager, System Director, Associate Administrator, and now Chief Laboratory Officer of a growing health system. Her support of staff to join this organization and participate in these events, as well as her dedication to supporting the laboratory professional programs around the state made her an obvious choice this year. After her 41 years, she is hanging up her lab coat to enjoy retirement spending time with her grandchildren and taking trips with her husband and family. For those who have worked for and with her, she has been an amazing colleague and friend, doing anything she can to support her staff and their families. She will continue to be involved with the chapter but we greatly appreciate all she has done for our profession.
Finally, I want to thank our vendors, without whom we couldn't have had this event:
- Beckman Coulter - also sponsored the dinner the prior evening
- Werfen - also sponsored a Trivia and S'mores event the prior evening
- BD
- Cepheid
- Quest Diagnostics
- Nova Biomedical
- Radiometer America
- WVU Medicine
- WVU Medicine - United Hospital Center
- Roche Diagnostics
- Natera Inc.
- Siemens Healthineers
- CellaVision
- Bio-Rad Laboratories
- Horiba
